Cluster University Jammu 1st Semester English Literature Literary Genres of Poetry and Drama Previous Year Question Paper
The Previous Year Question Paper of “Literary Genres of Poetry and Drama” in 1st semester BA English (Hons/Major/Minor) at Cluster University Jammu is the most loved, high-scoring and career-shaping paper that every literature student solves 15–25 times. This 3-hour, 70-mark paper (plus 30 marks internal) is the perfect introduction to the magic of poetry and drama. Section A contains 10 compulsory short questions on definitions, characteristics and types of lyric, ode, elegy, sonnet (Petrarchan & Shakespearean), ballad, epic, mock-epic, dramatic monologue, tragedy, comedy, tragicomedy, one-act play, soliloquy, aside, and major poets/dramatists (Shakespeare, Milton, Wordsworth, Keats, Kalidasa, Girish Karnad, Vijay Tendulkar). Section B tests explanation with reference to context from prescribed poems and dramatic scenes. Section C carries three long questions — one compulsory critical appreciation of an unseen poem (20 marks), one detailed note on any prescribed poem/play (20 marks), and one comparative study of two poets/dramatists (15 marks). Every year at least one poem (Shakespeare’s Sonnet 18/130, Keats’ Ode to Autumn, Wordsworth’s Daffodils) or one scene from prescribed plays is directly repeated. Students who solve the last 10 years’ papers develop extraordinary critical writing and score 94–100 easily. Toppers maintain a personal “200 Poems + 50 Plays + Literary Terms Notebook”. This question paper is therefore not just an exam — it is the direct path to JKPSC English Lecturer, NET/SET, campus placements in content writing, journalism, publishing houses, and becoming a confident literary critic from day one.
