Study of Urdu Poetry & Prose (Course Code usually URDL-101C or Major-101) is a 6-credit Core Course (4 Theory + 2 Tutorial) under NEP-2020 at Cluster University Jammu, designed to build strong foundation in classical and modern Urdu literature. Unit-wise Syllabus & Marks Distribution: → Unit I: Asnaaf-e-Sukhan (15 marks) Definitions, history & characteristics of Ghazal, Nazm, Qasida, Marsiya, Masnavi, Rubai; major classical poets – Wali, Mir, Sauda, Ghalib, Momin, Zauq, Dard. → Unit II: Prescribed Poetry (25 marks) Ghazlein: Mir Taqi Mir (5 selected), Ghalib (5 selected); Nazmein: Iqbal (Bal-e-Jibreel – 3 nazmein), Faiz Ahmed Faiz (Dast-e-Saba/Naqoosh-e-Faryadi – 3 nazmein); explanation with context, central idea, poetic devices. → Unit III: Asnaaf-e-Nasr (15 marks) Definitions & evolution of Dastan, Novel, Afsana, Drama, Inshaiya, Khaka, Sawaneh, Tanz-o-Mazah; major prose writers – Sir Syed, Hali, Deputy Nazir Ahmad, Premchand, Rashid-ul-Khairi. → Unit IV: Prescribed Prose & Short Stories (15 marks) Selected Inshaiya (Pitras, Mushtaq Ahmad Yusufi), Khaka (Mustansar Hussain Tarar), Afsane of Saadat Hasan Manto, Krishan Chander, Rajinder Singh Bedi, Qurratulain Hyder.
