Cluster University Jammu 1st Semester Music Introductory Knowledge of Indian Classical Music Previous Year Question Paper
The Previous Year Question Paper of “Introductory Knowledge of Indian Classical Music” in 1st semester BA Music (Vocal/Instrumental) at Cluster University Jammu is the most melodious, highest-scoring and career-launching paper that every music student practises 25–35 times with full sur & taal. This 3-hour, 70-mark paper (plus 30 marks practical) is 50% theory + 50% practical-based. Section A has 10 compulsory short questions on Naad, Shruti, Saptak, Thaat system, Raga-Ragini classification, 72 Melakarta scheme, 10 main thaats, Jati (Odav, Shadav, Sampurna), Vadi-Samvadi-Anuvadi-Vivadi, Aroha-Avaroha, Pakad, Time theory of Ragas, and basic taal (Teental, Dadra, Keherwa). Section B tests notation writing of Bandish/Raag (Yaman, Bhupali, Alhaiya Bilawal, Kafi, Bhimpalasi) in Teental/Dadra, identification of ragas from given phrases, and short notes on famous gharanas (Gwalior, Agra, Jaipur, Patiala). Section C carries three heavy questions — one compulsory 20-mark detailed notation + alaap + taans of any prescribed raga in Teental, one 15-mark on “Thaat system aur uska mahatva with examples of 5 ragas from Bilawal & Khamaj thaat”, and one 15-mark practical-based “Write & identify taal with tali-khali on hand beats”. Every year at least one raga from prescribed list (Yaman/Bhupali) and Teental notation is directly repeated. Students who solve the last 10 years’ papers and practise daily 2 ragas + 2 taals score 96–100 easily. Toppers maintain a personal “200 Bandish Notebook + 100 Raga Lakshan Geet + Daily Riyaz Diary”. This question paper is therefore not just an exam — it is the direct path to JKPSC Music Lecturer, All India Radio Grade Artist, Doordarshan, Music Teacher, Stage Performer, and becoming a proud carrier of Indian Classical Music tradition from day one.
