Cluster University Jammu 1st Semester Music Introductory Knowledge of Tabla-I Previous Year Question Paper
The Previous Year Question Paper of “Introductory Knowledge of Tabla-I” in 1st semester BA Music (Tabla) at Cluster University Jammu is the most rhythmic, layakari-rich and highest-scoring paper that every tabla student practises 40–50 times with perfect tali-khali. This 3-hour, 70-mark theory paper (plus 30 marks practical) is 55% theory + 45% notation & layakari. Section A has 10 compulsory short questions on origin & evolution of tabla, parts of tabla (Syahi, Chatti, Gajara, Lav, Baddhi), varnas (Tin, Ta, Tun, Na, Dhin, Dhet, Tit, Kat), basic taals (Teental, Dadra, Keherwa, Rupak), 10 pranas of taal, and famous gharanas (Delhi, Ajrada, Lucknow, Farukhabad, Banaras, Punjab). Section B tests writing theka with dugun-tigun-chaugun of Teental/Dadra/Keherwa, simple kayda-peshkara, rela, tukda, and identification of boli. Section C carries three heavy questions — one compulsory 20-mark full notation of Teental theka + one kayda + one tukda + one tihai in dugun & chaugun, one 15-mark on “Varna, Laya, Gharana system aur Punjab gharana ki visheshta”, and one 15-mark practical-based “Write & explain any 3 laggis & 2 chakradar tihais”. Every year Teental notation with kayda-rela and Punjab gharana features are directly repeated. Students who solve the last 10 years’ papers and practise daily 2 kaydas + 2 tihais score 96–100 easily. Toppers maintain a personal “300 Kayda-Rela + 200 Tihai + Daily Riyaz Recording Diary”. This question paper is therefore not just an exam — it is the direct foundation for All India Radio Grade Artist (Tabla), Doordarshan, JKPSC Music Lecturer, JKSSB Tabla Teacher, stage accompaniment, and becoming a professional tabla maestro from the very first semester.
