Cluster University Jammu 1st Semester Geography General Cartography Previous Year Question Paper
The Previous Year Question Paper of “General Cartography” in 1st semester BA/BSc Geography at Cluster University Jammu is the most practical, diagram-based and 100% scoring paper that every geography student solves 20–30 times. This 3-hour, 70-mark paper (plus 30 marks practical) is 60% practical + 40% theory and decides your entire geography career. Section A has 10 compulsory short questions on map definition, types, scales (RF, statement, graphical), projection basics, SOI toposheets, and contours. Section B tests scale conversion, enlargement/reduction, bearing calculation, and profile drawing. Section C carries three heavy practicals — one compulsory 20-mark scale construction + conversion + area calculation, one 15-mark map projection (cylindrical equal area or conical with one standard parallel), and one 15-mark toposheet interpretation (identification of 10 features + drainage + settlement). Every year at least one projection (Mercator, Mollweide, Zenithal) and one toposheet question is directly repeated. Students who solve the last 10 years’ papers and practise daily on graph sheets score 96–100 easily. Toppers maintain a personal “100 Scale Conversions + 50 Projections + 200 Toposheet Features Workbook”. This question paper is therefore not just an exam — it is the ultimate foundation for UPSC/JKPSC Geography Optional, GSI, Survey of India, ISRO, NATMO, JKSSB Lecturer, and every GIS/RS job. Practising it repeatedly turns a beginner into a professional cartographer from day one. (332 words)
